Billy's Camp No.39, Marble Bar.

G'day all,

I left Newman on the 9/6/14 and drove to Marble Bar via Marble Bar road and Nullagine, about 75% dirt road. A scenic drive where the road takes the easiest route through the hills in the later part of the drive. Marble Bar has the distinction of recording the most consecutive hottist days in Australia and is apparently in the biggest shire in the world. Once again it was built from  a boom mining era.
I stayed one night and then moved on to Cape Keraudren.

One of those mining trucks from earlier pics

Ophthalmia Dam.... Newmans and Mt Whaleback mine water supply

Returning from Port Hedland

Red dust from the road... the other side is green

This was not on the maps...diverted for a new mine

The dry creeks have character, and the tree lines of the numerous creeks can be seen as your driving

Out of focus... but a pretty drive
Marble Bar township...just around the corner

Marble Bar, it is in fact jasper and was originally thought to be marble. The pics below are of the area. I find the fragmented areas most interesting, and wonder how it happened. There must have been two events for the jasper to fragment and then be set again with another lava flow.

I wet some with water to bring out the colours

This couple had traveled the Canning Stock Route. The two drums on top were for fuel to make the trip. They were stored lower when full.

Ooroo.
